The gameplay involves solving puzzles to reveal secrets, platform jumping, and shooting foes with the help of a "lock-on" mechanism that allows circle strafing while staying aimed at the enemy. Metroid Prime is a 3D action-adventure game in which players control series protagonist Samus Aran from a first-person perspective, unlike previous games of the Metroid series, with third-person elements used for Morph Ball mode. In 2009, an enhanced version was released for the Wii as a stand-alone game in Japan, and as part of the Metroid Prime: Trilogy compilation internationally. It won a number of Game of the Year awards, and is regarded by many critics and gamers to be one of the greatest video games ever made, remaining one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic. The game garnered universal praise and commercial success, selling over 2.8 million units worldwide. The game was a collaboration between Retro's staff in Austin, Texas, and Japanese Nintendo employees, including producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Kensuke Tanabe, the former of whom suggested the project after visiting Retro's headquarters in 2000. It was released in North America in November 2002, and in Japan and Europe the following year. Since exploration takes precedence over combat, Nintendo classifies the game as a "first-person adventure" rather than a first-person shooter. Metroid Prime is the fifth main installment in the Metroid franchise and the first game in the series to use 3D computer graphics and a first-person perspective. As of now there are still no other major sequence breaks that have been found so I believe a well done run would reach somewhere close to a 2:20.Īnd before I forget I would like to thank all the people at Metroid 2002, especially zell99 and paraxade for giving some very good times to beat.Metroid Prime is an action-adventure game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the GameCube. This run is very outdated already in terms of little tricks that have been found. I gave it some thought and just decided to keep the segment cause it would be a whole lot easier to improve the rest of the run by a minute then to try and improve a single part. When I was all done I felt bad because I was still really lazy on the last segment but it was barely fast enough to give me a 2:32. Of course I didn't study much and finished these last segments. It was what my college calls dead week cause we have no class but are supposed to be studying for our finals. So somewhere around mid December I found some time to work on this again. So I planned on redoing those last segments over thanksgiving but had no luck. After watching my last couple segments starting around the gandrayda segment I realized I could easily drop two more minutes off my time. I finished what I thought would be this run in November 2007 with a time of 2:34. After finding that out I knew my run would make it into the 2:30's, I just wasn't sure how close I could come to 2:30 itself. Before I was even half way done paraxade had beaten the game in 2:43. At the time nobody was sure a time below 3 hours was possible. It was also the start of only my second play through the game. ![]() I started this run but a mere month after its release. It is done in 2:32 with a collection rate of 31%. This is a speed run of Metroid Prime: Corruption on normal mode.
